Perched along the banks of the Roaring Fork is the Piampiano Residence, Studio B’s latest creation that will be finalized in its entirety during the summer of 2013.  The project,  a seamlessly articulated series of formal cubed volumes that follow the natural topography of the site, reinterprets the existing house while marring the project as a whole through its use of materials, patterns and massing to one another.  The project is probably one of the most difficult residences I’ve ever been commissioned to capture due to the siting, topography, and heavy vegetation.  Saying this, it’s probably been one of my favorites due to the project’s extensive play of  light and shadow, and how effortlessly the project fits into the very specific vernacular of the Roaring Fork’s world renown Woody Creek community.  Somehow, in all of this, Studio B was able to marry the spirit of Hunter Thompson and a sixties ranch Americana with the conceptual clarity of the Glenn Ligon’s adorning the walls of the home’s interiors.  A very thoughtful and fun project indeed…
